English is at the heart of a purposeful, engaging, cross curricular approach to learning, with a half termly topic and key text providing the context and purpose for developing reading, writing, speaking and listening across the curriculum. As a school we value the importance of first-hand experience and giving children the opportunity to research, read, talk, discuss, role play and express opinions before writing for themselves. Children are encouraged to write for real purposes and to publish and share their writing on a regular basis. Specific skills are taught systematically as an integral part of the English curriculum.
