Outdoor Learning

Outdoor Learning

At Hallgate we are developing our Outdoor Learning curriculum, taking advantage of our school’s outside environment by developing an area of the field into an amazing outdoor learning area.

Children will enjoy experiences from across the curriculum including telling stories, cooking over small fires, hunting for invertebrates, making mud pies and exploring habitats. Over the coming year I will be working with all the year groups within our school.

Outdoor Learning will build on the natural instinct to learn and offers opportunities to make choices; initiate learning and take risks, which supports the development of positive attitudes and behavior. I will be visiting all classes to find out what type of activities the children would like to take part in and will use this together with the curriculum which the children are learning in class to plan the Outdoor Learning sessions. The sessions will always be practical and will emphasise the development of self-esteem, communication and social skills, personal responsibility and citizenship. These skills will feed back positively into other work in school.

Please see timetable below, which informs you which class is currently taking part in an Outdoor Learning session.

When your child is taking part in a session please ensure your child attends school with suitable footwear and a coat, there may be some occasions when we will ask you to provide a change of clothes for the session, if this is necessary we will advise you of this via text.

This is an exciting opportunity for the children to extend their learning in school.
