Bonjour!
In KS2, all children at Hallgate will study a foreign language. During weekly French lessons, children are given the opportunity not only to learn about the French culture, but to communicate with others in the language too. It is a thoroughly enjoyable subject to learn, with emphasis on the written word as well as on practical tasks, such as drama, story-telling, role-play, speaking and listening.
As a school we value the importance of celebrating work and this is also the case for the learning of languages. We do this through embracing International day of languages as well as exploring a unit of work with real life experiences, sharing work with younger children and language focused assemblies. KS1 children are also exposed to the language through French labelled items and places across the school, as well as enjoying French songs.
